@admin technically correct, but it misses the point completely. After a few blocks, a transaction is pretty much guaranteed to be valid. That's why you are told not to trust transactions with one or 2 confirmations. After 3, most brokers will let you trade with deposited bitcoin. After 7, it's viewed as irreversibly cleared.
